General Meeting 2025: Shaping the Future of Decarbonization – Together
On May 5–6, 2025, members and partners of the ESTAINIUM Association convened at the Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne for the General Meeting 2025 — a significant and forward-looking milestone in our collective journey toward industrial decarbonization.
Over two full days, the community came together to share insights, align on critical developments, and strengthen our joint commitment to trustworthy and effective exchange of Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) across value chains. The event featured a rich mix of strategic updates, expert input, and interactive collaboration.
Key Topics and Outcomes
The working groups presented their latest achievements, ranging from harmonized data exchange standards and biodiversity integration to advanced digital infrastructures such as Factory-X. One of the central launches was our new Digital Carbon Compensation Rulebook, which offers actionable guidance for credible and transparent compensation strategies.
Another milestone was the premiere of the ESTAINIUM Impact Film, which captured the essence of our mission and the tangible results of our work. A keynote from Matteo Cavalleroni of Nemo’s Garden invited us to think more broadly about regenerative practices and nature-based innovation. Impulse talks along the supply chain — from supplier to OEM — highlighted how digital tools and AI are enabling practical decarbonization in manufacturing.
The agenda also included a dedicated session on Trust Lists for Sustainable Manufacturing, an increasingly important topic in light of the evolving regulatory landscape. As a neutral and independent body, ESTAINIUM is well-positioned to contribute meaningfully to the development of such trust mechanisms, particularly in alignment with the eIDAS regulation framework.
Another important theme was the early-stage development of a circular economy framework for manufacturing. This emerging approach seeks to integrate life cycle assessments (LCAs), power reduction strategies, zero-waste models, and advanced recycling technologies. These areas will continue to be a focus for several working groups in the months ahead.
A tour of the Swiss Smart Factory offered a glimpse into cutting-edge production technologies, while hands-on workshops provided space for meaningful cross-group collaboration. Informal networking, enhanced by creative tools such as the Estainium Sticker Book, fostered further exchange and strengthened our sense of community.
A Moment of Transition
The gathering also marked a moment of farewell and gratitude: Eberhard Niggemann stepped down from his role as Deputy Chair. His leadership, insight, and long-standing dedication have helped shape ESTAINIUM from the beginning. We thank him sincerely for his service and wish him all the best.

The General Meeting 2025 was more than an event — it was a powerful reaffirmation of our shared mission. It made clear that collaboration, transparency, and trust are not optional elements but essential foundations for real climate impact. We thank all participants for their commitment and energy, and we look forward to continuing this important work — together.
Stay tuned for more updates as we deepen our efforts in circularity, trusted data exchange, and collaborative climate action.
