Fireside Chat at the Sustainability & Procurement Summit Hamburg: Collaboration as the Key to Carbon Transparency

Hamburg, 26 June 2025 – At this year’s Sustainability & Procurement Summit, ESTAINIUM hosted a dedicated fireside chat together with our members NTT DATA, Weidmüller, and the WifOR Institute. Under the title “Unlocking Carbon Transparency: Collaboration as the Key to Real Solutions”, the panel focused on the challenges and opportunities around product carbon footprint data across supply chains.

The expert session was hosted by Verena Colonna from ESTAINIUM, who guided the dialogue with members and shared insights from Estainium’s cross-sectoral work on carbon transparency and data exchange.

The central question discussed was: How can companies generate reliable, comparable, and interoperable emissions data and make it accessible across their value chains? One message stood out – real transparency doesn’t happen in isolation. It requires aligned standards, mutual trust, and most importantly, collaboration.

Miriam Koch from NTT DATA highlighted the importance of technical standardisation as the basis for scalable and interoperable carbon data exchange. Mark Edler from Weidmüller shared practical perspectives on how transparency in product carbon footprints can actively drive innovation in design and sourcing decisions. Tim Noppeney from the WifOR Institute emphasised the importance of working with real-world, applicable data use cases – and the role of collaboration in building trust in carbon metrics.

The fireside chat sparked lively engagement and led to many follow-up discussions among participants. It demonstrated once again how relevant the topic of carbon transparency has become across industries – and the vital role that initiatives like Estainium play in creating the necessary infrastructure and dialogue space for collaboration.

ESTAINIUM returns from Hamburg with renewed energy: to further develop actionable use cases, continue shaping robust standards, and build new partnerships on the path to credible, data-driven decarbonisation of global value chains.
