Factory-X PCF Guidance — Your Roadmap to Product Carbon Footprints

New Factory-X Publication: Practical Guidance for Product Carbon Footprint Calculation in Discrete Manufacturing

We are excited to share a new publication from the Factory-X project: "Factory-X PCF Guidance – Product Carbon Footprint Calculation for Discrete Manufacturing."

What is it about?
The guidance supports companies in discrete manufacturing in calculating the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) of their products in accordance with the Catena-X PCF Rulebook V4.0 / Manufacturing-X PCF Guidelines V1.0—with a strong focus on practical implementation rather than theory.

The document includes:

• Three fully worked calculation examples (machined part, forged part, and additively manufactured part), including all formulas
• A clear methodology for handling shared machines, production halls, and energy meters (process subdivision, system expansion, and allocation)
• A practical overview of suitable allocation keys for different manufacturing processes
• Five additional real-world examples, including the allocation of building-related emissions and emissions during machine idle times
