ESTAINIUM e.V. on CBAM at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in Berlin
On September 16, 2025, Estainium e.V. was invited to a hearing at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy on the impact of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) on the industry. Dr Sabine Schulte-Beckhausen, Head of the Estainium Working Group 4 – Regulation – and CBAM expert, had the opportunity to talk about the respective importers’ practical experience of the regulation as well as desirable simplifications.
The Estainium Working Group 4 regularly shares experiences in this area. The EU Commission will shortly be issuing three Implementing Acts on CBAM, on the further development of the methodology for calculating emissions, on the calculation of CBAM certificates in conjunction with the EU ETS and on the deduction of CO₂ costs paid in third countries. The Ministry will incorporate the industry's input into its consultations with the EU Commission. The Ministry has announced that it will continue the dialogue with the economic sectors affected. Estainium is pleased to be able to make an active contribution to the further development of CBAM.
